Old Laddie

When I was little girl Old Laddie taught me everything about the bush and hunting. Every morning she sang out for us - “come on kids let go hunting.”

Old Laddie taught me where to find everything in the bush. Urltwaampa (sugar bag), yirrampa (honey ant) tjurrka (wild fig) tjurrka (witchetty grub) and tjurnpa (perentie). She taught me how to cook things in the bush. She always found what she was looking for.

If it’s too high up I always climb up the tree. I had skinny legs back then when I walked with Old Laddie. - Trudy Inkamala
